Newborn nursery
Our Level II newborn nursery has the capacity for 19 open bassinets and 5 intermediate care warmers. The unit is prepared to care for well newborns, as well as those requiring intermediate care. One of our nursery nurses attends all cesarean sections to assist the pediatrician. All nursing staff maintains neonatal resuscitation certification. Infant security is a very special priority for all our babies. The Nursery is a locked/closed unit, with a special instructional program for staff and parents regarding infant security. New parents are intensively taught regarding care for their newborn. A special newborn care instruction program is provided to all new families by the Newborn Nursery staff.
Functioning as a step-down area for NICU, the newborn nursery nurses maintain skills to care for newborns with special needs such as:
- Oxygen therapy
- Cardiac and respiratory monitoring
- Intravenous therapy
- Isolation
- Minor surgical procedures
Specially trained lactation consultants are available in the nursery to assist the new mothers with breast-feeding. With emphasis on breast-feeding and education, the Nursery stands apart in individualized, expert care of new mothers and their infants.
